Cates Park/Whey-ah-Wichen

City Of North Vancouver

We completed the full scope of construction for this coastal park upgrade project, managing everything from early site logistics to detailed landscape finishing. The work blended civil construction with sustainable green-infrastructure practices to create a resilient, community-focused waterfront space. Cates Park/Whey-ah-Wichen, meaning “faces the wind” is North Vancouver’s largest waterfront park and holds deep cultural significance.

A Birds-Eye View of Site Integration

This wide shot highlights the scale of our general project and site logistics, where we coordinated closely with the City of North Vancouver to manage mobilization and strict traffic control in a busy public setting. It also captures the transition between forest and coastline, an area where we implemented environmental protection measures to preserve the shoreline during demolition and site preparation. Our careful planning ensured the park remained safe, accessible, and environmentally protected throughout construction.

Picnic Shelter & Connectivity

Centrally located, the new picnic shelter represents a major piece of our site furnishings & structures scope. Our crew handled the structural assembly and the precision concrete work for the pad to create a durable gathering spot.

Leading away from the shelter, you can see the new non-motorized boat path. This required significant civil & hardscape construction, including the use of crushed granular bases to ensure the path could withstand constant use and weather.

Sustainable Water Management: The Rain Gardens

This area highlights our landscaping work, specifically the newly installed rain gardens. We utilized hydroseeding and specialized topsoil to create a system that naturally manages and filters stormwater runoff.

To define these spaces, we installed log and boulder fencing as part of our site furnishings & structures. These natural barriers protect the young native plantings while maintaining the park’s rugged, coastal aesthetic.
